We are very excited to announce the purchase of our new farm.
Greenwood Paint Horses is located at Edgegrove Farm. This is a
historic property homesteaded in 1746 by David Potts. Being a 7
generation farm we feel very blessed for the opportunity to own this
beautiful piece of history. The farm is sixty breath taking acres, the
stone house built in 1880 will be restored to its original beauty. It is
perfectly situated on a knoll that overlooks Catoctin Creek which
meanders through the fields. The house is surrounded by historic
buildings and barns one of which is a smoke house built in 1747 and
still stands in mint condition. We will be making a few additions to the
property, a new 12 stall barn and a 90 x 185 indoor riding arena. We
welcome you to come and visit us, the horses and attend the PNH clinics
that will be offered starting in the Fall of 2005. We will of course
still offer our foals and finished horses for your consideration.
The main goal of our program is to shatter the notion that horses of color can’t compete with their solid colored counterparts. We select horses for our breeding program based first on disposition, then conformation and athletic ability, then pedigree, and lastly color. If we find a horse that possesses all of these qualities and it happens to be homozygous, that’s great, if not, we’ll try to cross it with one that is. We know we’re taking some chances on getting solid colored horses, but, we’d rather have a solid colored athlete with a good mind than a beautifully painted up lunatic that no one wants to get near.
Our performance horses come from the lines of the top cutters and reiners in the Quarter Horse and Paint world.
These bloodlines include Smart Little Lena, Smart Chic Olena, Hollywood
Jac 86, Q T Poco Streke, Pepsi Poco and Mr Gun Smoke. The beautiful color is just the icing on the
cake!
